24 sheet posters were displayed on billboards.  Relatively few survive and are almost never displayed due to their ginormous size, typically 20 ft./246 inches (horizontal) x 9 feet/108 inches (vertical). Here are a few exceptional examples of 24 sheet movie posters.

No 24 sheets from King Kong have survived.  This is a photo from the King Kong pressbook (which is a black and white publication, the actual poster was in color). 

Below right is a picture of a 24 sheet Creature From The Black Lagoon displayed above a theater.  Below left is the pressbook.  Theater owners could order the 24 sheet and other posters for just a few dollars from the local National Screen Service warehouse.
